Tour Itinerary

Tour Itinerary

Starting your tour from either Edinburgh, or the surrounding area, we will drive west & make our first stop at the famous Kelpies which are monumental 100ft steel structures affectionately known as Baron & Duke. You will learn a little bit about Scotland’s Folklore here and why they chose to build these impressive structures on the canal. We will spend around 15 minutes here before hopping back into the tour van and onto the National Park. Making a stop on Loch Lomond shortly after entering the National Park we will arrive at the conservation village of Luss famed for its quaint cottages and fantastic views of Scotland’s favourite Loch. You may wish to wonder around the village taking in the breathtaking scenery or grab some coffee and cake at the many cafes in the village. Driving further along the Loch we will then head west and drive along many lochs and glens before arriving at the head of Glencroe for a quick photo stop of the Rest & be Thankful which is a site made famous by the military who build the original road through the glen. Arriving into Inveraray just in time for lunch we will enjoy around 1.5 hours here which will give you time to sit down to lunch or you may opt for a faster lunch and enjoy some time at the towns castle which is the clan seat to one of Scotland’s greatest clans the clan Campbell. Continuing on from Inveraray we will drive north to Loch Awe to make a couple of stops along the Loch at St Conan’s Kirk and a viewpoint to capture Kilchurn Castle one of the more famous ruined castles in Scotland before we turn east for the drive back towards Edinburgh. Before arriving back at Edinburgh, we will make an additional stop on the way in Kilmahog to visit the famous Highland Cows where we can have the option of feeding them to finish of the day in the best possible way. Arrival back will be approximately 1830

FAQ

West Highlands  Tour FAQ's

FAQ

Our FAQ's can be found here but FAQ's specific to this tour are below:

Should we make a lunch reservation? This depends on if you would prefer a sit-down style lunch which would give less time at Inveraray Castle. Two of our favourite lunch options are the Loch Fyne Oysters on Loch Fyne & The George Hotel in Inveraray.

Where can we start the tour? Although the tour itinerary is based on starting in Edinburgh, we can start the tour in the surrounding area and anywhere on the route. Please get in touch for more information.

What is an alternative to Inveraray Castle if it is closed? You can spend more time exploring the town or visit the Inverary jail. Alternatively, you can use that time at scenic locations to make extra stops.

Is the tour flexible for other stops on the way? Yes, the time on tour is down to you, which is the beauty of a private tour. The stated itinerary tries to make the most of the time on tour, but you can alter stops on the route to your interests as long as it fits into the timings of the tour.
